LUCAN Planning Council have written to the National Transport Authority (NTA), on behalf of residents who do not wish to lose the 25 bus route.

Phase 2 of BusConnects launched at the end of November, and while it has led to improvements, it has also “disconnected” many commuters in Lucan.

Residents in Dodsboro/ Hillcrest have lost a direct bus to the city centre and a vital bus stop at SuperValu – after the culling of the 25 route and its replacement, the X30, which only operates at peak times.

Lucan Planning Council were “surprised” at the turn out (over 150 people) to their public meeting held at Dodsboro on December 21.

It was one of a number of meetings held in the area since the launch, with numerous residents and local politicians feeling their concerns were ignored in submissions they made to the NTA during the public consultation process.

“The people of Dodsboro and surrounding areas made it clear to us they don’t want to lose route 25 and the rerouting of route 239 is unacceptable, (now L52),” said LPC in a public statement this week.

“The removal of routes 66A and 66B from Leixlip results in 66 (C3) passing lower Lucan full and creates uncertainty for people wishing to use public transport.

“We have written to the NTA (December 29) seeking a meeting to have these problems resolved.”

TD Gino Kenny (PBP) has said the loss of the 25 route leaves many people having to get two separate buses to get to the city centre.

“I’m calling on the NTA to consider increasing the services on the new X30 bus and to look at re-instating the bus stop at SuperValu,” he said.
