Petition to create hostel for homeless

VOLUNTARY support group Help 4 the Homeless have moved a number of yards from their regular spot outside Molloys on the Ballyfermot Road – after the off-licence claimed the soup kitchen was attracting an anti-social crowd engaged in begging and threatening behaviour.
Molloys told The Echo that “well oiled” crowds gather outside each evening waiting for the soup kitchen to open, and they hang around after the kitchen closes at 9pm “tapping up” customers.
One staff member was allegedly threatened by a soup kitchen user and quit his job, forcing the store to employ security.
Paul Kearns, Manager at Molloys, said: “We have been here 18 years and it has never been as bad as this.
It started out good, but basically a crowd of them are now outside the door from 5-6pm, some are tapping up customers.

Help 4 the Homeless was established by local women in November 2014, dispensing hot food and supplies to people in need seven days a week.
It sparked an outpouring of goodwill and positivity in the community, with residents, schools, businesses and community groups donating supplies.
A recent post on the Help 4 the Homeless Facebook page said they are “staying on the main road” and are “going nowhere.
