Poor people paying more again – MABS

A SURVEY conducted by Dublin 10 & 20 MABS found 12 out of 15 shops in the community have introduced a surcharge on their PayPoint service – usually 50 cents.
In May, The Echo reported how the decision by larger shops in Ballyfermot to introduce a surcharge for PayPoint transactions had caused uproar for irate customers – leading to the establishment of a Facebook page ‘Boycott the 50 cent charge on bills.’The charge for paying utility bills and topping up on gas and electricity, was introduced by some of the bigger chains, but a MABS survey conducted in December, found the practice has now spread to the smaller shops in the area.
