Progress made by South Dublin County Council in tackling anti-social behaviour

THERE WERE 70 incidents of violence, intimidation or harassment in Tallaght in 2015 reported to South Dublin. In total there were 421 incidents of anti-social behaviour in Tallaght reported to the council last year.
There were 16 incidents of drug activity, 45 of criminal activity and two of joyriding reported to the council in 2015. The figures were released at the latest Tallaght Area Committee meeting of SDCC.
There were 29 incidents of squatters/illegal occupiers reported to the council in 2015, 37 incidents of vandalism, two incidents of racism and 57 incidents of vacant houses reported to the council.
There were 11 reported neighbour disputes, 46 reports on the physical condition of gardens and 28 reports on the physical condition of property made to SDCC.
There were 44 incidents of noise/disturbance reported to the council. The winter weather did not affect the figures, with 15 incidents reported in the first quarter, 17 in the second quarter, 12 in the third quarter and none in the final quarter of 2015.
Total actions taken in the Tallaght area by council staff was 1,983.
From that figure, there were 963 housecall/inspections in 2015. No tenants had their tenancies terminated by the council in 2015 but there were nine abandonment notices served.
There were 27 surrenders of properties, while 29 warnings were issued to housing tenants in Tallaght in 2015. Council staff held 732 interviews (formal office and by phone) in 2015.
The council told the Tallaght Area Committee meeting that statistics for the first quarter of 2016 will be made available for the next meeting.
Local councillor Cathal King told The Echo that he was very happy with the steps that SDCC took to tackle anti-social behaviour in the last year.
He said: “After the previous year’s figures were released we got together and set up different committees which targeted certain areas where anti-social behaviour is a problem.
“The committees consisted of councillors, local people and the gardaí working together. I believe we made some good progress as regards tackling anti-social behaviour”.
