A SIX-week healthy eating programme kicks off at Ballyfermot Library on Monday evenings, starting April 16, from 6pm to 8pm, reports Maurice Garvey.

The free project has been run by the Ballyfermot Chapelizod Partnership for the past 11 years, and supports people to engage in healthier eating habits.

The Food and Health project provides non accredited education and training courses, and is aimed towards disadvantaged communities, particularly where cost is a consideration.

Areas covered include Dublin 2, 6, 8, 10, 12 and Chapelizod.

This programme targets individuals aged 15-years and up, and aims to improve participant’s nutritional knowledge.

Facilitators say the course is practical and fun, with group discussions, quizzes, exercises and cooking and tasting in each session.

Each session lasts about two and a half hours and the course will run over 6 weeks

Topics covered include cooking tips, shopping smart, fibre providers, tasty healthy foods, and food hygiene.
