A TALENTED singer from Monastery Gate in Clondalkin was named the senior winner of the 2016 Teenstars competition, which took place in the Red Cow on Sunday, July 3.

Sixteen-year-old Rachel Greene, who attends Coláiste Bríde and works as a lounge girl in her local Boomers pub, competed in the Teenstars competition for the fourth time. She has previously won the Clondalkin Credit Union C U Got Talent competition.

For her winning performance, Rachel sang ‘Dear Mr President’ by Pink, and played the guitar to accompany her performance.

Rachel’s mother Martina told The Echo: “This is Rachel’s fourth year doing Teenstars and the second year she got to the final.

“I would highly recommend the Teenstars experience as a platform for every child to grow as a performer, as they are nurtured and encouraged every step of the way.

“Rachel started learning guitar seven years ago in Pure Music in Kingswood Business Park with her teacher Neil Eurelle.

“Her guitar playing and voice have grown over the years and it is an amazing achievement to be the senior winner of Teenstars 2016.

“Rachel has won the Clondalkin Credit Union C U Got Talent two years in a row (2014, 2015) and then went on to win the regionals two years running.

“Music is her life and she would love to make a future career in performing or teaching just once she has music every day.”
Rachel’s musical influences include Ed Sheeran, Passenger, Pink, Orla Gartland, Hudson Taylor, Gabrielle Aplin and Gavin James.

She will be starting fifth year in Coláiste Bríde this September, and was also chosen as a successful candidate for a role as a fifth year mentor to the incoming first year students of the school.
