TALLAGHT’S first LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer) night was successfully launched by local students this month writes Aisling Mahon.

Called Frenzy, the night, which will be held monthly in the Metro Bar, was launched by IT Tallaght’s Rainbow (LGBTQ) Society.

LIFE Rainbow Society

Established 15 years ago, the Rainbow Society started life with only five people and is now one of the college’s most active societies with 85 members.

Over the course of the year, the Rainbow Society staged numerous events that have helped to promote equal rights for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students in the college alongside organising social and fundraising activities.

Speaking to The Echo, Rainbow Society Chairperson Laura O’Rourke said: “The group is for LGBTQ people and allies, and it is a safe place to go knowing that they aren’t alone.”

The society’s latest venture is LGBTQ night Frenzy, which, open to all members of the community regardless of their sexual orientation, provides a safe and fun environment for a night out.

Frenzy will be run in the Metro Bar on the Old Blessington Road once a month and according to Laura as the nights grows, there are plans to organise themed events.

Doors open at 8pm, and entry is free with drinks promotions on the night.

Visit the Frenzy @ The Metro Facebook page for details on the March event.
