Rapid-build house site under fire over dirt

The construction of 53 rapid-build homes in Cherry Orchard is well under way, although a number of residents have complained about the dirt on the road caused by trucks entering and leaving the site entrance on Cherry Orchard Green.
Dublin City Council say the scheme – located on HSE lands behind Cherry Orchard Hospital – is due to be completed by November 2018.
The development will contain a mixture of three-bed and two-bed two units.
Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan said the contractor is due to get an industrial cleaner to take care of the roads.
“Residents on this street can expect a volume of traffic, including heavy lorries, but there is a site compound and some machinery will remain on site,” he said.
“The road is liable to get dirty at certain stages but the contractor has ordered a large road cleaner which unfortunately has not arrived on site yet. The road is still quite dirty and we have been inspecting the road on a daily basis and reporting the situation to the site manager.
“All site works will be contained within the boundary fence and no access to any other street should be required.”
The contractor has spoken to the residents who are immediately adjacent to the site and is happy that there are no issues.
Dublin City Council has met with a number of residents from various streets in Elmdale and confirmed the contractor has subcontracted Rentokil for the duration of the build.
DCC are awaiting a date and time for another meeting to ensure all residents on Cherry Orchard Green can attend.
