Residents’ concerns eased over rapid-build housing

RESIDENTS of the Croftwood estate in Cherry Orchard met with representatives from Dublin City Council last Friday to discuss the rapid-build housing that is set to be built in the area in the coming months.

Organised and chaired by local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan, the meeting was sought to clarify questions surrounding the construction of up to 24 rapid-build houses on the site.

Speaking to The Echo, Cllr Doolan said: “It was very good, an information exchange between residents and the council.

“The biggest danger we have is a vacuum, with spin and lies being told. A lot of information was clarified for everyone.

“Many residents see it as a positive, with the houses being built on an open space that has been used for anti-social behaviour.”

Preparatory work for the houses is currently taking place on the site, with work on the houses set to begin by August and expected to take 20 weeks.

He continued: “Having recently gone door-to-door updating local residents about the proposed modular housing in Croftwood, Sinn Féin organised an information meeting for residents last Friday.

“Dublin City Council outlined plans for the 24 rapid build homes that are proposed for Croftwood.

“This meeting was essential as residents had a wide range of concerns and issues to be dealt with.

“It is essential that these meetings continue. We will not allow the construction to continue without proper com-munication.
“We will be organising a second meeting as soon as detailed plans are signed off on.

“If there are any issues during construction, residents can contact myself or Dublin City Council’s Brian Byrne.

“The proposed homes are for homeless families in hotels and B&Bs and they will be allocated to those longest in emergency accommodation.”

Cllr Doolan also expects to organise another meeting with residents in the coming weeks, when further drawings of the homes are made available.
