Rubbish-filled caravan abandoned at end of Dromcarra estate cul-de-sac
By Laura Lyne
RESIDENTS of the Dromcarra housing estate in Jobstown have seen their road treated like a dump after a caravan filled with rubbish was left abandoned.
Last Thursday, the residents of Dromcarra Green were shocked to find the caravan dumped at the end of the cul-de-sac.
Despite numerous calls to South Dublin County Council from residents on the road, the rubbish was not cleared before the weekend and was even set on fire on Friday night.
Since the pile of rubbish was set on fire, there has been more rubbish dumped onto the pile, including a bathroom sink, with one resident calling it a health and safety hazard.
Speaking to The Echo, they said: “The caravan was parked around the corner and somebody asked for it to be moved and it was moved onto the road.
“This happened on Thursday, and everyone on the road rang the council about it. On Friday morning it appeared that council staff were out looking at it and took a bag of rubbish away.
“Then, it was set on fire on Friday night. On Saturday it appeared that someone was trying to clear it, but it was one of the neighbours rather than council staff.
“Since then, it has been added to, with a bathroom sink added on top of it and as of today [Tuesday] it hasn’t been moved. It’s disgusting, there’s bags of nappies on it and I don’t know how we don’t have rats.
“At night you could easily drive into it if you don’t know it’s there, we’re having to drive on the wrong side of the road just to get past it.
“It’s embarrassing seeing that on the road, how could anyone take that amount of rubbish and just dump it there?”
The Echo contacted South Dublin County Council about the illegal dumping on Dromcarra Green and they confimred that the caravan was removed from the housing estate on Wednesday.
