Ryan bags national medals

RYAN O’Keeffe had a busy weekend recently in the colours of Donore Harriers.

On Saturday, April 7, he won a bronze medal on the final day of the National Juvenile Indoor Championships at the Athlone Arena.

Competing in the Under 18 Boys 5kg Shot Putt, he produced a fifth-round throw of 12.01m to edge him past Andrew Buggy of Brow Rangers and claim third position with Jack Ryan (14.79m) of Moycarkey Coolcroo AC taking gold. 

O’Keeffe then landed two medals at the National Spring Throws competition at Templemore on Sunday, April 8.

A best effort, measuring 37.46m, secured him the silver medal in the Under 18 Boys 1.5km Discus, before a personal best throw of 39.79m saw him take the same colour in the 5kg Hammer.

Keri Noonan (39.46m) narrowly missed out on a medal in the Under 17 Girls 3kg Hammer from which she emerged fourth.

Other Donore competitors in action in the National Indoor Juvenile Championships were Max Carey (1.70m), who finished seventh in the Under 19 Boys High Jump, and the Under 12 Boys quartet of James Dunne, Matei Ursachi, Louis Wright and Ciaran O’Farrell who narrowly missed qualifying for the final of the 4x100m relay.
