September Team of the Month: Castle Golf Club
CASTLE Golf Club had plenty to cheer about when they claimed the AIG Men’s Senior Cup at Dun Laoghaire.
The team was boosted by Rob Moran in their side who was crowned AIG Men’s Close champion while Alex Gleeson won that same prize back in 2016 and is also a member of the winning side.
Both players earned hard-fought points in the final to help Castle to a 3 to 2 comeback win over Naas after coming for 3-1 down after 13 holes to secure the crown.
Castle, who last won the title back in 2012 had plenty of experience in their side with players of the calibre of Jack Walsh, Peter McKeever and Dan Holland providing vital experience this time around.
Moran added another touch of class and it was enough to seal a famous win against Naas.
In the semi-final, Moran won the match for Castle against County Sligo, again on the 19th hole.
“It was a great success for the team and we are delighted to secure the title,” said team manager James Brennan.
“It was a tough All-Ireland series beating Lee Valley in the quarter-final and then Rosses Point and we were delighted to come through that tie.
“It did not look good in the final 4-1 down after 13 holes, but with the calibre of players we produced a great come back”.
