Shopworker allegedly left with broken jaw that required surgery

A SHOPWORKER was left with a broken jaw after he was assaulted by a Clondalkin man, Blanchardstown Court has heard.

Hassen Berki, aged 21, with an address at Greenfort Drive, Clondalkin, is charged with assaulting Danish Khan causing him harm at Londis, Adamstown, Lucan, on October 19, 2016.

Sergeant Maria Callaghan told Judge David McHugh that the DPP had directed summary disposal in Berki’s case. Judge McHugh asked what was alleged.

Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that on October 19, 2016, Berki entered Londis in Adamstown and attacked a member of staff. She said it will be alleged that Berki punched the man in the face and knocked him to the ground. Sgt Callaghan said it will be alleged that the injured party suffered a fractured jaw and required surgery. She said the injured party had a metal plate inserted in his jaw.

Sgt Callaghan said she did not have a medical report.

Judge McHugh asked if it will be alleged that it was a one-punch assault.

Sgt Callaghan said the precis did not say if it was one punch.

Judge McHugh said he would have to see a medical report before considering jurisdiction.

He remanded Berki on continuing bail to a date in January for the medical report and to consider jurisdiction.
