St Dominic’s selected as one of four schools in Ireland to link with student support

DPS Engineering launched a student support programme this week with St Dominic’s Secondary School in Ballyfermot selected as one of four schools in Ireland to participate.

St Dominic’s past pupil Janice McGarry has been appointed as the CSR Student Support Programme Manager, working closely with staff, students and parents to ensure that students will achieve the best Leaving Cert results possible, and ultimately progress to third level.

The school have a number of partnerships with businesses and colleges, and DPS have provided a range of supports, including a mentoring programme, work experience and youth advisory panel.

Students also benefit from extra maths classes, workshops, supervised study, trips to language courses, the Gaeltacht, and colleges.

Deborah Quigley, Coordinator of the programme in St Dominic’s said: “We can already see the positive impact that the programme is having on our students.”

Principal Mary Daly said: “The first year of the programme has been most successful, and we have observed positive changes in student attitudes towards school and progression to third-level education.”
