St Mark’s fight back to claim Division 8 championship title
ST MARK’S Minor Football Ladies finished their season in style with a hard fought victory over Geraldine P.Morans last weekend in the Division 8 Championship final.
Played in Cornelscourt the match saw a final scoreline of 5-11 to 3-12 with Mark’s taking the trophy back to Tallaght.
It was a strong start from Mark’s who managed a goal and a point early on however GPM came roaring back into the game, cheered on by a vocal home crowd.
They managed to score two goals in a matter of minutes before rattling off a few scores to unsettle the St Mark’s side. After recovering Mark’s attempted to go on the offensive themselves but would be unable to get their noses back in front as Geraldine P.Morans enjoyed a four point lead at the interval.
The break at half time was needed for the time to regroup and re assess, coming back out for the second half with a renewed sense of confidence, Mark’s managed three goals in quick succession to get themselves back into the game. Goalkeeper Ava Doran did well to deny the opposition several goalscoring opportunities as Mark’s saw out the game and claimed victory.
Scorers for Mark’s on the day included Izzy Byrne, Caoimhe Dunne, Layla Murphy, Naomi Hatch, Zara Quirke, Niamh Boyle, Ava Pierce and Ruby Wilson.
Special mention must also go to captain Ava Sherwood who played on and galvanised her side in the second half with an outstanding performance despite suffering a serious eye injury in the first half of the game.
