St Patrick’s Day Tallaght festival needs more volunteers

A ST PATRICK’S Day Festival in Tallaght next year is dependent on members of the community volunteering their time or becoming committee members, with a final call-out for volunteers being made this month.

A group of community volunteers is trying to stage a St Patrick’s Day Festival in Tallaght on March 17, similar to the popular event held in Tallaght Stadium in 2015.

Planning is currently in its early stages with organisers seeking committee members, volunteers, dance groups, performers, sports clubs, bands and sponsors to express their interest.

An information meeting is being held in the Maldron Hotel on Wednesday, November 23, with anybody interested in volunteering or being a committee member encouraged to attend.

Committee member Martha Cousins from Millbrook told The Echo: “There is a lot of work involved in staging a St Patrick’s Day Festival and we need support from the community.

“This is a positive festival for people and families living in Tallaght, but to get it off the ground, we need bodies on board.

“This is basically our last call-out for volunteers and if we don’t get support, we won’t be able to continue with our plans to stage the festival.”

She added: “Being part of the festival is a great way for people to do something good in their community and also to make new friends.

“Tallaght should have a festival to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and all of the amazing local talent that is here . . . and hopefully we can grow the festival into a parade over the coming years.

“We really hope that people interested come along to the meeting, we’d love to get people involved.”

The open meeting in the Maldron will be held on Wednesday, November 23, at 8pm.
