Students set to put on unmissable ‘A Christmas Carol’ show
By Mary Dennehy
A FESTIVE adaptation of Charles Dickens’s A Christmas Carol is taking to the stage of Old Bawn Community School this December, and the entire community is invited along to enjoy this heartwarming, festive musical.
After the unprecedented success of the school’s musical Hairspray in March, the student cast and crew are back with an adaptation of A Christmas Carol, the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge – an old miser who is visited by three ghosts on Christmas Eve.
While students have adhered to the original story which sees Scrooge brought on a journey of self-discovery as he dwells on past decisions and mistakes and foresees what becomes of him if he continues with his miserable ways, the young crew has incorporated modern music into the script which promises to bring the audience on a “magical journey” through time.
The cast consists of 68 students, 13 teenagers in hair and make-up and 29 in staging and design.
Teacher Sarah Gibbons told The Echo: “The school community has been treated to Christmas carols since Halloween and every single person involved has given up a huge amount of time and energy. This unmissable production is sure to mark the beginning of the festive season.”
For an memorable night, and to support local talent, book your ticket for A Christmas Carol – it is playing in Old Bawn Community School this December 2, 3 and 4 at 7.30pm.
Tickets are available from the school and cost €10. Call Old Bawn Community School on 4520566 or drop into the reception.
