Students show artistic flair with D24 – A User’s Manual exhibition

STUDENTS from Killinarden Community School and Deansrath Community College showed their artistic flair last month at the exhibition of D24 – A User’s Manual, as part of Creative Campus ‘17.

The exhibition was an alternative guide to Tallaght and its surrounding areas, encouraging the students to find inspiration in the landscapes they see every day.

Tony Fegan, Director of Tallaght Community Arts, told The Echo: “We showed the students that the social, physical and geographical landscape around them can be the subject of their art – they don’t need to go anywhere else for inspiration.”

The exhibition included visual art by Stephen Burke, Aaron Smyth, Jessica Bradley, Ciara Dooley, Annie Doyle, Shane Harcourt and Amy Jean Lynch Burke.

A short film was also made by Tallaght Young Filmmakers, Siobhan Chinenyanga, Jason Doran and Ben Nolan, and eight young performers read selected extracts from The Echo to show that you don’t have to look far for inspiration for stories.

Amy Jean Lynch Burke, from Killinarden Community School, and Annie Doyle, from Deansrath Community College, were awarded scholarships to the NCAD portfolio preparation course over the summer as a result of their participation in the exhibition.

Mr Fegan added: “The six young people from the two schools were delighted with their work.

“The young filmmakers were taken on a journey, looking at film-making from a visual art perspective, not a normative perspective.”
