Tallafest 2015 fun and festivities!

THE spirit of celebration took over the heart of Tallaght village on Saturday as Tallafest 2015 showcased the best and brightest of Tallaght with fun events for young and old.
Along Main Street and throughout the Priory car park, packed crowds checked out the festivities with many children adorned in creative face paint designs joining their parents, family members, friends and pets to celebrate the day.
The good weather held throughout the festival and the smell of tasty food took over the Tallaght air as the sounds from the main stage of the festival echoed throughout the village.
The village was buzzing on Saturday with young and old all taking in all the sights, sounds and smells all around the festival area.
Tallafest15 also attracted tv and radio attention with coverage from 98FM, who broadcast from Main Street all day, and TG4, who presented a lovely piece on the Tallafest on the Nuacht.
Activities in this year’s celebration of the heritage, arts, nature and culture of Tallaght included Sonna Samba band and the breathtaking American Muscle Cars, Harley motorbikes and vintage cars which all adorned the roads of Tallaght during the opening ceremony. Robot Ted, the bake-off, an outdoor céilí and the Woodlawn falconers with the impressive birds of prey, all contributed to the success of the festival.
Local artists got to show off their talent in the Artzhimers Art Exhibition in St Maelruain’s, with a large crowd admiring the creative cakes created for the bake-off – with many people enjoying the tasty cakes afterward.
The Scouts campfire was also a popular activity during Tallafest, with the crowd enjoying the chance to roast some marshmallows, and all the pets in attendance scrambling to feast on the remains.
Crafty mummy Kasia also got the parents involved in the fun to show off their design chops with her crafty tables.
Sporting prowess was also on show with the Greenhills archery club giving prospective archers the opportunity to test their skills and St Mark’s Taekwon-Do school students teaching some moves to onlookers.
The crowd at Tallafest also flocked to the artisan food stalls, which offered a great range of tasty and unique treats.
All this was only made possible through support from The Priory, St Maelruain’s, Main Street residents, SDCC and businesses, as well as the emergency services and the gardaí.
Chairperson of Tallaght Community Council, Tara De Buitléar told The Echo: “Tallafest15 was a complete success – it had a wider range of activities than previous years and featured some real different events this year.
“A huge thanks to TCC committee members, volunteers and sponsors for making it possible.”
