Tallaght aim to land Madden Cup

TALLAGHT RFC will face off against DLSP in the final of the Madden Cup on Saturday in Malahide.

Tallaght made the final two years ago, but lost by just two points to Coolmine and so they will be hoping to go one step better this time around against a DLSP side with whom they have had plenty of battles with over the years.

Tallaght made the decider following two hard fought wins over Guinness and Railway Union while DLSP have beaten AIB and Coolmine.

Looking forward to the match Tallaght coach Tom Leigh said: "This is our fifth final in the last three seasons and the team is determined to take home a trophy this time.

“We’ve only lost one game this season in the league and cup combined and it’s been great to see that consistency.

“In terms of perform-ances we probably haven’t quite hit the heights we know we’re capable of this season and we know we’ll need to lift it to win the final,” he added.

Elsewhere, Tallaght Women recorded a 17-12 victory over Division Four rivals Athy on Sunday in Firhouse.

Looking for their second win of the season, Tallaght started well with a great move by the forwards that ended with Martina Fitzpatrick going over and Aisling Pyke converting.

Athy responded quickly with an uncon-verted try only to see Tallaght centre Ellen Crotty make a great run from 35 yards out to score an excellent touch-down to make it 12-5.

Yet again, Athy fought back to square the game at 12 points apiece by the halftime break, but Tallaght eventually clinched the win when Rosin Doyle broke over the whitewash.
