Tallaght boy (12) accused of dangerous driving

A 12-year-old has appeared in Tallaght Court accused of four counts of dangerous driving. He allegedly led gardaí on a pursuit across Tallaght at 11pm last January.

The boy appeared with his mother before Judge Patricia McNamara.

The boy, who has an address in Tallaght, is charged with four counts of dangerous driving, no insurance and no driving licence at a location in Tallaght on January 14, 2016.

Judge McNamara asked what was alleged. Garda Stephen Murray said it will be alleged that at 11pm on January 14 last he was on patrol when he observed a car driving at speed.

He said the conditions were quite icy. Garda Murray said the car drove over a number of speed bumps at speed and then broke a red light before losing control.

He said the accused and three other males got out of the car. The boy was arrested a short distance away. Judge McNamara accepted jurisdiction.

She remanded the boy on bail to a date in September for a plea or a date for hearing.
