Tallaght Martial Arts team on three-front medal raid

TALLAGHT Martial Arts fight team had a very busy weekend with involvement in no less than three different tournaments.

First up was the Austrian Classics WAKO World Cup in Innsbruck where Nathan Clarke turned in a great performance to win both the Younger Cadets Points Fighting -30kg and 33kg sections in convincing fashion.

On Saturday the TMA fight team were in action in Derry in the Battle of the North with Naoise Colvin in top form, winning gold in the -55kg Points Fighting Older Cadets and taking second in the -50kg.

Cian Colvin emerged third from the -50kg Points Fighting class while there was double gold for Dillon King in -45kg and + 45kg Light Contact after which he earned silver in Points Fighting +45kg.

Jodie Browne was on top of her game picking up three first-place finishes in -65kg Points and Light contact before landing the overall Women’s Grand Champion title.

Gar Ryan won the Senior Men’s -74kg Points title while Sam O’Toole took Under 9 Light Contact silver and Dylan McClelland won the Older Cadets -55kg Points contest.

Dave Heffernan, fighting in the Masters division took top spot on the podium as did Sabrina Aidi in Under 12 Points -45kg while Selsabile Aidi emerged runner-up from the -45kg Under 12 Points section.

On Sunday TMA fielded competitors in the B-Elite Open Tournament in Wexford with Aoife Bailey winning the 16-17 years Advance Points Fighting section as well as the Women’s Grand Champion title. 

Her brother Emmet Bailey topped the 8-9 years Intermediate Points section while Cian Jones won gold in the 6-7 Years Points and silver in the light contact in what was his first time competing in this event.

There was gold also for Zara Jones in the 14-15 Years Points fighting as well as bronze in light contact and silver in the Women’s Grand Champion.

Isabel Golding won out in 6-7 Years Points and finished third in light contact while Leo Golding was runner-up in the 10-11 Years Points and third in the light contact.

Erin Birkhead won double gold in the 12-13 years Points and Light Contact before Saoirse Johnston earned silver in the 6-7 Years Points with Ryan Birkhead doing likewise silver 16-17 Years Points and Light Contact.

Eoin Finn, contesting in his first Light Contact match won gold in the 8-9 Years division won gold and finished third in Points Fighting after which David Harris finished runner-up in the -80kg Senior Men’s Points and Light Contact sections.

Aaron Keogh was first in 12-13 Years Points with Shauna Fitzpatrick and Brayden Davis following suit in the 14-15 Years Points and 10-11 years Advance Points Fighting respectively.

The latter also earned silver in the light contact section while Anna White picked up bronze in 10-11 Years and 12-13 Years Points.

Next up for Tallaght Martial Arts fight team is the Munster Open in Cork on April 28 before the second round of the Kickboxing Ireland Senior National Championships in Tallaght on May 12.
