Now in its 26th year, the 2017 Salon attracted 450 entrants where the thousands of photographs submitted were whittled down by six judges, over the course a weekend, to the 120 that will be on display.

Darragh Sherwin, the organiser of the Salon, said: “It’s a delight to see all the photographs on display.

“We get entrants from all over the world, this year we had entrants from places as far away as Bahrain and Vietnam.”

Mr Sherwin added that there had been an increase in the number of entrants from places such as India and China, but that the bulk of entrants still came from Ireland and the UK.

He also added: “Irish photographers are doing really well at an international level at the moment.”

The overall best photograph in the exhibition has been awarded to Tony McDonald, a photographer from Dundalk.

The exhibition will include print and digital images, with three of the digital sections being displayed on TV monitors.

The photographs are on display in Tallaght Library until January 24.
