Templeogue lose out in cup finals
By Hayden Moore
TEMPLEOGUE were pipped at the final hurdle across the board on the weekend of March 23, as they were beaten in four Cup Finals across four age groups, reports Hayden Moore.
It was an action-packed weekend, as Black Amber Templeogue were unsuccessful in the Men’s Champions Trophy finals, with the Under-17s, Under-16s, and Under-13’s losing out in the Dublin Ladies Basketball Cup finals.
Templeogue went down to Garvey's Tralee last weekend
Chasing double cup glory, Templeogue travelled down to WIT Arena in Waterford to face-off against Garvey’s Tralee Warriors, where they ultimately lost out 73-61 for the Champions Trophy.
The repeat of last year’s final, saw a neck and neck first quarter as Black Amber pulled ahead going 17-14 – with top-scorer Jason Killeen and Lorcan Murphy putting in a shift for the Templeogue side.
Going into the second quarter, Tralee took charge as they eased into the game but Killeen kept chipping away at the Tralee defence – with Luke Thompson, and Neil Randolph also keeping Templeogue in the loop.
Despite best-efforts from Mike Bonaparte, and Killeen taking the bull by the horns in defence as well as offence, it was Tralee who started to open up a wide margin – as they led by nine points by the end of the third-quarter.
The final quarter saw Templeogue raining down on the Tralee defence, with Killeen the stand-out yet again as he picked up some huge scores for his side – and their luck seemed to turning as Tralee forward Trae Pemberton was fouled out with 6.36 minutes to go.
The Black Amber brought it back to a four-point game after the dismissal, but to no avail as it was the Kerry side who came out victorious and travelled back to the kingdom with a 73-61 victory.
