Two men robbed items from eight unlocked cars in Lucan estate

GARDAi apprehended two males who were responsible for a string of burglaries from unlocked cars in the Lucan area this week.

Responding to a call, Lucan gardai went out to a residential estate on the night of Wednesday, November 9, and apprehended two young males.

The suspects revealed to gardai that they had broken into eight cars that night, within a relatively short period of time.

None of the cars were damaged, rather it was a case of opportunists checking car doors to see if they were open.

Superintendent Dermot Mann, from Lucan Garda station, urges people to lock their cars and homes at all times.

“Unfortunately, it’s not unusual for cars to be left open,” said Supt Mann.

“The two were caught red-handed, and brought officers around to eight cars they broke into.

“Each one was left open. They took property, including sat navs, laptop, personal belongings. Ultimately, it is the person’s responsibility to ensure their car is locked.”

The Echo understands the stolen property was returned to the owners and the two young men – one a teenager – were not formally charged after co-operating fully with gardaí.
