Some displays of note included the triple medal-winning family of Anna, Steve and Lisabeth Mahesh who all contested their first international outing.

James McGovern and Shae Yambao lined out in the Advanced Division for the first time and both took away bronze medals.

Among the more experienced athletes who were sent to lead the team was Eoghan Gorman who won a Senior -74kg gold, after a blistering performance in his semi-final that was followed up with victory over clubmate Cyrus Shirvani who had to withdraw due to injury.

2018 European medallist Emma Cahill secured gold in her Cadet division, while two of her training partners Shauna Farrell and Jacqueline Rosales took gold and silver respectively.

Coach Niamh Buffini oversaw Ryan Doyle’s superb silver medal win in the Junior -48kg class and the two will join up again next weekend when they travel to the Fujairah Open, UAE with team mate Jack Woolley who also attended the Ultimate Open as Team Coach.

The trio hope to kick start the 2019 international Ranking Event calendar in the Emirate of Fujairah where they host one of the world’s most prestigious Taekwondo events.
