Workers are recognised at GEM Awards for Going the Extra Mile
By Mary Dennehy
TWO people from Tallaght were among 100 workers honoured in a national awards programme for going that extra mile in the course of their daily job.
Helen Dardis and Glenn Hayden were recognised in the 2016 GEM [Going the Extra Mile] Awards, which are presented by ISS, a major provider of outsourced business services that employs more than 3,500 people across the areas of cleaning, catering, security, pest control and property services.
Living in Jobstown, Helen, who is a mother-of-three, impressed judges with her record of reliability and hard work, while Glen Hayden, who is a single dad of two boys, was described as reliable and discreet, as he deals with issues of pest control after hours and early in the morning before people arrive at work.
According to reports, Glenn is always in great form even at 6am and finds time during his day to help elderly neighbours with odd jobs.
The Irish GEM awards, which are hosted by ISS, were presented by former Dublin footballer, Alan Brogan.
Speaking at the awards, Alan said: “There is a great sense of satisfaction in giving your best, whether that is on the sports field or in the workplace; and it is even better to have progressive employers like ISS Ireland publicly recognising staff who are both committed and talented.”
ISS supports leading businesses and healthcare and education facilities countrywide, including, Hewlett-Packard, Amgen, Citigroup, Spencer Dock, UCD, UCC, Waterford Regional Hospital, and Bons Secours Hospitals.
Award nominations are made by the client organisations in conjunction with work supervisors, and entail an ongoing performance review.
