Wuffles makes himself at home in Garda station

WUFFLES very nearly became Tallaght’s first Garda dog this week, when the dapper 10-year-old dog was handed into the local station after being found wandering around Tallaght Hospital.

According to Garda sources, Wuffles fitted right in with staff at the station, who made the little dog feel at home by finding him a basket and blanket – and lots of treats.

Tallaght officers posted a picture of Wuffles on the Garda Twitter page at around 10am on Sunday, with the post, appealing for Wuffles’ owner to come forward, going viral – and melting hearts right across the country.

Within 20 minutes of the tweet, Wuffles’s personal groomer Julie Smith had spotted her chic client on Twitter and contacted the owner.

Julie, who works at Beautiful Cuts dog grooming and training in Clondalkin, said: “I knew it was Wuffles straight away, he’s a very distinct and cute little dog.

“He was only with me last week for a groom and we put that little bow on him.”

Julie contacted Wuffles’s owner Linda Malone, straight away.

Linda, who lives in Fettercairn, had been down with her dad who lives close to Tallaght Hospital and Wuffles had made a dart for the door at around 6.30am – and very stylishly made his way into Tallaght Hospital.

“Staff in Tallaght Hospital contacted Tallaght Garda Station and dropped Wuffles over,” Julie said.
“It’s so nice to know that our local hospital and Garda station would go to the lengths they did to care for Wuffles and get him home.

“It really is a feelgood story and Tallaght Garda Station were amazing, they deserve all the recent publicity.”

Tallaght Superintendent Peter Duff said that Wuffles won the hearts of officers working in the station and that his quick reunion with his owner really highlighted the power of social media in getting a message out.
