Young man allegedly sexually assaulted another while in care

A YOUNG man who allegedly sexually assaulted another while they were in care had his case further remanded by Tallaght Court.

The court had heard that the offence allegedly occurred in a care home in Tallaght four years ago when the accused was 17. He is now 21.

The court had heard it will be alleged that the defendant and another male were in care and they were both the same age.

The defendant allegedly felt the injured party around the groin area outside his trousers and when the injured party objected he stopped.

The male, aged 21, who has an address in Tallaght is charged with sexually assaulting a named male at another address in Tallaght on July 28, 2012.

The man was before Judge Patricia McNamara for a plea or a date for hearing.

The man’s counsel, George Burns BL, told Judge McNamara that his instructing solicitor was still awaiting items of disclosure.

Judge McNamara noted the nature of the case and reminded the members of the press present that the alleged injured party could not be identified in any report.

She remanded the defendant on continuing bail for five weeks for disclosure and for a plea or a date for hearing.
