Your Tenement Memories – DCC Culture Company organise project

People are invited to tell their stories and share their memories of tenement life as part of a new oral history project for 14 Henrietta Street.

Organised by the Dublin City Council Culture Company, the project, which aims to capture the living memories of 14 Henrietta Street and tenement life in Dublin, will run a series of drop in events across the county over the coming months, and hopes to connect people and communities with the stories and heritage of the city.

Your Teniment memories

‘Your Tenement Memories’ will begin with visits to ten of the areas where tenement residents were relocated across Dublin to talk to people about their memories, as well as running a series of drop-in sessions at 14 Henrietta Street.

Speaking about the project, Head of Engagement for Dublin City Council Culture Company Aalia Kamal, said: “During these sessions, we will hear stories and collect histories and memories of tenement living and suburbanisation. We would like to talk to people with memories of life in 14 Henrietta Street or other Dublin tenements.

“Those who attend can expect a cup of tea and a chance to share their memories. So, if you or someone you know has memories or stories to share about what life was like, whether it be the food, the furniture or the games children played, we want to hear them all.”

If you have memories of Dublin’s tenements, if you lived in a tenement, or knew someone who did, maybe you worked in or around the tenement buildings, whatever your connection, ‘Your Tenement Memories’ would like to hear from you.

As part of the project they are travelling out to some of the areas where people were relocated to from the tenements and they have some local events coming soon to – Our Lady’s Hall, Drimnagh, Tuesday, February 5 from 10am to noon; Crumlin-Walkinstown Library, February 18 from 2pm to 4pm; St Agnes’ CCMA Crumlin, February 21, 10am till noon; and Ballyfermot Library, April 15: 10am until noon.

If you would like to find out more about the events or how you can take part in the project call 01 524 0383 or email memories@14henriettastreet.ie
