Zippy Davis’ shoot the lights out to lift Junior Two Cup

A ZIPPY Thomas Davis team blasted through the Junior Two Camogie Cup Final in style, shooting the lights out in Kiltipper with a 4-13 to 2-5 win over Raheny on Tuesday night.

The Mick Byrne managed side hit the front from throw-in, with Erin Waddick and Sinead Tyrrell splitting the posts.

Despite a slight blip, when Raheny meandered to find a goal, Ali McConnell replied instantly for the hosts to cancel it out.

A young up-in-coming team, Davis’ have family at the core of the side with three groups of sisters playing their part.

The Plowman’s, Noonan’s and McGuigan’s are central characters to the green and golds success this season and Tuesday night was no different.

Carla Plowman in midfield, flanked by the brilliant Ciara McGuigan and Grace Byrne on the wings, ran the show and made it very difficult for travelling St Anne’s Park side to get through the gears.

Georgia Plowman made no mistake from a brace of 45s while goals from Waddick and Kennedy placed Davis’ well in the ascendancy.

The combo of Waddick, at wing-forward, and Kennedy, at full-forward, proved to be a potent mix with them notching up 2-5 between them.

Right at the death, despite some uncertainty around who got the final touch, Aideen Byrne claims the final goal for the hosts that guaranteed they would be lifting the cup.

This year, everything has fallen into place for Thomas Davis, with the adult camogie team really hitting their stride after a tumultuous 2020.

With the disruption to the season, Davis’ went on a losing spree, only carding one win last year and Camogie chairperson Lorraine O’Brien made it a priority to get the team back to winning ways.

And that is exactly what they have done.
