41 new social homes will be built at St Mark’s Avenue

SOUTH Dublin County Council approved the construction of 41 new social homes at St Mark’s Avenue, Clondalkin at Monday’s council meeting.
The development will include nine bungalows that will be designated specifically for older person’s housing.

The proposed social housing development will be built at undeveloped lands off St Mark’s Avenue, St Mark’s Grove, and Rowlagh Crescent, situated in St Mark’s estate.
In a statement, SDCC said an extensive public consultation period saw the plans revised following feedback from the public and elected members with the council praised at the meeting for the process.
“The development is also expected to provide the opportunity to deliver further enhancement to the areas around issues such as security and turning the nearby open space into a more usable area for children and future residents of the area,” said SDCC.
Sinn Féin councillor Mark Ward said he was glad that the council took on board submissions from a survey conducted in the community by the party.
“One thing residents were quite open to was older people looking to step down from a two/three-bed house. The amendments saw seven units on the Rowlagh side changed into nine single-storey old folks homes. All elderly developments lately have been south of the Naas Road, so it’s good to see SDCC taking on board resident’s submissions.
“Another issue was that residents were concerned St Mark’s Grove would lose the cul-de-sac. Original plans were for this to be opened up, but that won’t happen now. There will be an access way off St Mark’s Avenue.”
