Accused of assaulting girlfriend
A MAN accused of seriously assaulting his girlfriend at their apartment is facing trial after a judge refused to accept jurisdiction to deal with the case.
Andrew Lindsay allegedly injured the woman at their home in Clondalkin on Christmas Day, leaving her with wounds to her lip and forehead, a court heard.

Judge David McHugh adjourned the case at Blanchardstown District Court for the further consideration of the DPP.
Mr Lindsay, aged 31, with an address at Whitestown Gardens, Blanchardstown, is charged with assault causing harm to the woman at Aras na Cluaine, Clondalkin on December 25, 2019.
Sergeant Maria Callaghan said the DPP directed summary disposal of the case at district court level.
An outline of the allegations had been given to the court previously and the judge had requested more information on the alleged injuries.
Sgt Callaghan said gardai received a call from the woman who said there had been an altercation with her boyfriend who lived at the address. She was “quite distressed” and looking for a garda.
When they arrived, the accused was not present. He was arrested a short distance away and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, Sgt Callaghan said.
A number of questions were put to him and photographs were taken of the woman’s injuries.
Judge McHugh read a medical report from Tallaght Hospital where a triage nurse noted that the patient had been “assaulted to her face with a knife.” She was seen by a doctor on duty and it was noted she had a wound to her upper lip and a second wound to her forehead, and had required a tetanus injection.
The judge viewed the photographs of the injuries and refused jurisdiction. Defence solicitor Terence Hanahoe said he understood the alleged victim may want to withdraw her complaint.
Judge McHugh adjourned the case to a date in April for the consideration of the DPP’s office.
Mr Lindsay, who was not in court, has not yet entered a plea to the charge.
