An Beithilín Beo returns to Clondalkin

RECAPTURING the wonderful Christmas spirit in a unique way, the anticipated preparations for An Beithilín Beo are in full-swing ahead of the community presentation being launched by Father Peter McVerry this weekend.
Looking for some inspiration for putting up the old crib in the house? Well, An Beithilín Beo is a ‘live’ Christmas crib that’s promising to once again be an uplifting, entertaining and spiritual experience full of choreographed movement.

By live, the crew putting it together mean 100 per cent live, with a full crib jam-packed with live animals and live actors – akin to the three-dimensional manger that many use to decorate their homes every festive season.
With each performance taking 45 minutes, visitors to Áras Chrónáin in Clondalkin will be treated to a fully realised live rendition of the manger scene from the Nativity across Saturday, December 14 and Sunday, December 15.
Construction on the life-sized stable has gone back to basics, with Muintir Chrónáin and the local community using old traditional methods – with not a single screw or nail to be found.
The concept for the Live Crib was devised by actor Brendan Murray, of Aifric and Ros na Rún fame, and is being produced by Brian Ó Gáibhín while Óisin Mac Tiarnáin is in control of directing duties.
This large production is using members of Aisteoirí Chrónáin, Muintir Chrónain and Áras Chrónáin to fill out its cast and crew that is set to mesmerise people of all ages.
An Beithilín Beo, The Live Crib, begins this Friday night
Admission to the event, which runs from 12 noon to 5pm on both days, is free with festive treats such as hot chocolate and mice pies being served.
With the presentation free, donations are being welcomed to ensure the continuation of the now annual magical community project for the foreseeable future.
An Beithilín Beo runs in Áras Chrónáin – Ionad Cultúir just off Watery Lane in Clondalkin on Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.
The official launch by Fr Peter McVerry will be on this Friday night, December 13 at 7.30pm, and that will be followed by a special preview of the Live Crib performance.
