‘Blurring’ of boundaries has caused confusion for residents

Since the boundary commission recommendations in 2014, new electoral ward lines were drawn up – which saw changes introduced which, for example, saw Bohernabreena moved into the Rathfarnham ward.
This ‘blurring’ of boundaries has caused confusion for many residents including those living in Bohernabreena, Ballycragh and Old Court, who despite having a Dublin 24 address are in the Rathfarnham ward.
The Minister for Local Government and Electoral Reform, John Paul Phelan TD has established two committees to review local electoral areas and to report back within six months.
The review of local areas is being undertaken ahead of the local elections in 2019.
Independent Rathfarnham councillor Deirdre O’ Donovan has encouraged members of the public who have suggestions or recommendations on existing boundaries to make a submission to the committee by February 19.
Councillors are also being encouraged to make a submission, with Clondalkin Independent councillor Francis Timmons, making three submission to the committee – one which voices his concerns over any “attempts to divide Clondalkin” into different electoral areas.
He also believes that the areas of Saggart/Brittas need to be included as Clondalkin to reflect the constituency of Dublin Mid-West and that Balgaddy/Foxdene should be included in the Lucan-Palmerstown area.
Make a submission by 5pm Monday, February 19, to boundarycommittee [at] housing.gov [dot] ie or by writing to Secretary, Local Electoral Area Boundary Committees 2017, Room 167, Custom House, Dublin 1.
