Citywest firm invests €1.1 million into its new dedicated telecoms branch

CITYWEST-based IT services company HCS is investing €1.1 million into the launch of its new dedicated telecoms arm, HCS Telecom.

Following the launch, HCS Telecom expects to achieve revenues of €1.3m in 2024 and will employ eight people by year end.

HCS, which specialise in cybersecurity, and digital transformation services, is rolling out this new arm of the business amid increasing demand from customers to migrate from legacy phone systems to cloud-based unified communications (UC).

Demand is being driven by the surge in remote and hybrid working practices, and the phasing out of traditional copper wires in favour of fibre, according to the company.

HCS Telecom has also launched a dedicated website to provide cloud phone solutions and robust connectivity for SMEs and enterprises in Ireland and the UK.

The investment includes the upgrade of technology and equipment in HCS’s Irish-based data centre, with enhanced servers, backups, and security.

The new division will be spearheaded by Head of Telecom Solutions, Mick Foley. HCS last year announced that it had acquired Fixaphone, a leading provider of business telephone systems, where Mick was managing director.

In the last two years, HCS has added 1,200 users and 100 new customers to its telecom client base. Its technology enables approximately 170,000 client calls to be carried out each month.

Mick Foley, Head of Telecom Solutions, HCS: “Legacy phone systems are static, which means that organisations don’t have the ability to work flexibly in an increasingly decentralised workplace. With this new division, we aim to address this challenge and enable more organisations to work from anywhere, safe in the knowledge that they are supported by a range of reliable and secure solutions.”
