Covid critical case admission in hospital still low

TALLAGHT University Hospital (TUH) recorded a “slight increase” in the number of Covid cases in the hospital at the start of this month, but the number of cases is still low.

This is according to Trevor O’Callaghan, CEO of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group, who shared this information at a meeting of the Mid-Leinster Regional Health Forum last week.

Mr O’Callaghan provided information about the current situation with Covid in response to a question by Cllr Charlie O’Connor (FF) about it.

The number of in-patients with Covid at TUH has significantly reduced since the height of the pandemic,” stated Mr O’Callaghan.

“We have seen a slight increase in the number of Covid cases in the early part of September.

“The number of in-patients with Covid ranges from 12-18 at any time.

“TUH has a designated Covid ward and rooms reserved in ICU for Covid patients, however, the number of patients requiring critical care admission is very low.

“The hospital has a robust plan in relation to the management of Covid patients.

“Access to single rooms in the hospital remains a challenge, implementing a plan that sees the hospital delivering new inpatient beds and isolation rooms is vital to improving quality of care.”
