Delay in social welfare payments due to European-wide bank issue
By Mark Keane
Delays this morning in relation to some social welfare payments, including children's allowance, are a result of a European bank payments issue.
In a statement to The Echo this morning, the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection said that it is aware that a bank payments issue is affecting European payments today - including some social welfare payments due to be paid into customer bank accounts this morning.
According to the Department: "The Department can confirm that it has processed all its payments as usual.
"Officials from the Department have been in contact with the main banks this morning and we understand that they are working to resolve this widespread payments issue as quickly as possible."
The Department has said that it will “monitor” the situation and update customers throughout the day on its website and social media channels.
