Exercise your Civic (theatre) rights . . . be a proud sponsor
By Aideen O'Flaherty
AN avid theatregoer from Kingswood is now the proud sponsor of a seat in the Civic Theatre in Tallaght – with a plaque on the back which she’s had inscribed with the Shakespeare quote, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,”.
Mary Harrington has been regularly going to plays and performances in the Civic Theatre since the performing arts venue opened in 1999, and she recently decided to avail of the Civic Theatre’s new opportunity for theatre patrons to sponsor a seat in the venue after recent renovations.
Mary Harrington has sponsored a Seat Plaque at the Civic Theatre
The cost of sponsoring a seat with your own dedicated plaque on the back is €250, with the money going directly towards supporting the work of the Civic, which is a registered charity, and Ms Harrington is happy to see the plaque dedication on the back of her seat, F1.
Ms Harrington told The Echo: “I’ve been going to the Civic since it opened because I’ve always been interested in the theatre.
“I feel like the Civic is my theatre, I feel great when I go there, and now a tiny little piece of it is mine.
“I’ve seen music, comedy and straight drama in the theatre.”
Explaining why she decided to sponsor the seat, Ms Harrington said: “I wanted to give something back – it’s almost like a donation to the theatre.”
People who are interested in sponsoring a seat can pay the €250 in instalments, and a commemorative plaque with your personalised text will be placed on a seat of your choosing in the auditorium.
Seat sponsorship can be purchased for a variety of reasons, including paying tribute to a loved one, celebrating an important milestone, as a unique present or as an advertisement for your company. For more information contact the Civic on 01-4627477.
Reflecting on her many years of attending shows at the Civic Theatre, Ms Harrington said: “It’s very important that people realise that the theatre is not elitist – it’s for everybody.”
