Fine of €500 for woman who presented forged Rwandan passport

A WOMAN who produced a false Rwandan passport when applying for a passport received a three-month suspended sentence in Tallaght District Court.

Lynnette Rubayiza, aged 52, with an address at Hunter’s Crescent, Ballycullen, pleaded guilty to producing a forged Rwandan passport at Fingal Passport Office, Fingal Bay Business Park, Balbriggan, County Dublin, on April 29, 2015.

Rubayiza was before Judge Patricia McNamara for sentencing.

Rubayiza’s solicitor asked the judge to leave his client without a conviction.

He asked if she would consider applying the Probation Act.

Judge McNamara said that it was a serious offence.

She added: “She applied for a passport with false details. The DPP could have directed trial on indictment in this case. What sentence would your client be facing then?”

The solicitor said Rubayiza could get up to five years in the Circuit Court.

Judge McNamara sentenced Rubayiza to three months jail suspended for 12 months with a €500 fine.
