Glenanne ladies make it three from three
GLENANNE ladies firsts made it three wins from three following their 3-1 win over local rivals Three Rock Rovers in the league at the weekend.
Glenanne made the trip to Grange Road in Rathfarnham in the hope of taking home another three points.
The home side started strong with their fast forwards trying to sneak their way into the Glenanne circle.
Three Rock’s aggressive, high press on Glenanne’s defence, was not successful on the score board.
Glenanne reclaimed their dominance in quarter two by scoring in quick succession from two short corners.
Audrey McCormack’s first goal and Kate O’Connor’s return to the top of the D after taking over the role as short corner injector this season.
Glenanne was unable to hold their 2-0 lead for long.
TRR snuck in a goal at the back post from a very quick counter attack to leave it 2- 1 at half time.
Glenanne appeared comfortable throughout the second half with Clare Shillington and Grace Lanigan having various chances 1 on 1 with the TRR goalkeeper.
Both, unfortunate not to put one of these opportunities away.
Late into the final Q, TRR mgmt. made the decision to take off their goalkeeper in their last ditch effort to share the points.
Shortly after, Grainne McManus won a short corner for Glenanne and Kate O’Connor hit her second consecutive goal into the bottom corner of the TRR’s net.
The game ended 3-1 to Glenanne. The ladies’ 1sts look ahead now to their last league game of the season versus Trinity College next Saturday, March 11.
