Hard work pays off

SCHOOLS in Clondalkin, Lucan and Ballyfermot where filled with joy as the Leaving Certificate (LC) results were unveiled on Tuesday.
The culmination of 14 years in the education system came for over 58,000 students on Tuesday morning, with a lot of students finding out how years of work in the school system looks on paper.

Parents and students alike waited anxiously for the results in St Dominic’s College in Ballyfermot, with Head Girl, Siobhan Lennon, getting the top results in the school.
Ahead of the CAO offers releasing on Friday morning, where she hopes to be offered a place in Law with Business in UCD, Siobhan said: “I can truly say that hard work and studying does eventually pay off and if you can believe in yourself, you can achieve anything.”
Principal Sarah Green had nothing but praise for the students, saying how “these results are important and can open up doors to further education, but remember they do not define you as an individual.
“At the end of the day, you are responsible for the direction your life takes and the successes you achieve.”
It was a community success story in Lucan according to St Joseph’s College Principal Bernadette Fitzgerald with almost 80 per cent of their students getting over 300 points.

She said: “We were very pleased with the results with 17 girls getting well over 500 points, 50 per cent getting over 400 points, and overall 79 per cent getting over 300 points.
“The whole school community shares in the happiness of the girls’ success. Congratulations to all on the excellent results and the warmest wishes to students as they embark on the next stage of life’s journey and follow various career paths.”
For students who fell just short of the course they wanted, they can appeal the grades through the Appeals Application Service on www.examinations.ie for €40.

Pure excitement filled the air in Lucan Community College as graduates gathered to receive their state examination results.
“The class of 2019 stood out for their support for each other and their strength of character. It is wonderful to see our graduates rightly proud of their academic achievements also,” said school Principal, Diane Birnie.
According the Ms Birnie, 14 per cent of the 117 students listed for the Leaving Certificate exams achieved over 500 points, with 40 per cent getting over 400 points while 90 per cent of students in their Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA) class received either distinction or merit

“Remember too that there are plenty of roads to reach the top of the mountain. I will miss them all.”
178 students completed either their Leaving Certificate or Applied equivalent in Clondalkin school, Coláiste Bríde.
Principal Maire-Therese Kilmartin said: “We’ve had some lovely results with the girls both meeting and exceeding their expectations.
“This is the first year that the results were available online from 10am, so we weren’t too sure how many would come to the school and we were delighted that they came, it was lovely to see the students and their families.
“They were part of the ‘college for every student’ plan with Trinity College, so they were tracked all along the way to find a fit for their courses after school.”
With all 18 LCA students achieving merits and distinctions, the school also had a few students getting over 550 points in the LC – making some eligible for scholarships in college, with one in particular receiving a scholarship to play football in America.
“It’s about giving them the best opportunities here at Coláiste Bríde and setting them up for what is to come by helping them along their way, it’s a really important day for them and I wish them well in whatever they do next,” concluded Ms Kilmartin.
