THE eighth annual Ciaran McDonnell Memorial Cup will take place next month in aid of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), and members of the community are invited to take part in the Kingswood Castle FC tournament and to go out for fun and live music at the Kingswood Lodge afterwards.

The event is being held in memory of Kingswood man Ciaran McDonnell, who died from sudden cardiac death syndrome in February 2010, with Kingswood Castle’s men’s team playing against a team of Ciaran’s friends and family, called Team Kiwi after the young man’s nickname.

Sharlene Kennedy, chairperson of Kingswood Castle FC, told The Echo: “The game and cup, which is in its eighth year, remembers our fallen friend.

“This year’s set-up will be one 90-minute game between two teams. We expect it to be another great match.”

Team Kiwi is looking for someone who is willing to be a goalkeeper for the team, with any interested parties being invited to contact the Kingswood Castle FC Facebook page.

The match will be followed by live music in the Kingswood Lodge and the presentation of the cup and medals will also take place.

Sharlene added: “We hope everyone will turn out to support this great Cup on the day and enjoy a few drinks in memory of Ciaran.”

The match will be held in Ballymount Park on Saturday, August 10, with a kick-off time of 2pm.
