Ljays load up the medals in Citywest
IT WAS a great weekend for Ljays Elite Martial Arts as both instructors and students picked up medals at the WKC World Championships in Citywest Hotel.
Contesting two sections, Sean Lynch emerged with two silver medals.

Indeed, in the Men’s Vets +85kg +35years light contact, he beat Jon Glarvey of England to secure passage through to the decider when he came undone on a split decision against Sean Mooney of England.
In the Men’s Seniors +90kg +35years light contact he defeated Mitchell Mass of USA in Semi Final before losing out to England’s Sean Mooney in the title match.
Lining out in the -35kg Continuous -10 Years section, Erin O’Hara lost out in semi final against the eventual winner, Emily Leochardy of Germany, but will be very encouraged by her bronze medal win.
Keva O Brien fought in the age 13/14 +60kg Continuous class and lost out to Macy Woods of England who also continued on to win the title.
There was more for Ljays to celebrate after the three Riddell brothers Zak, Josh and Jake, who teach in the club but train under KKC’s Nicolas Duffy, all topped the podium.
The former scooped his second world title in a month, when, after having won in the WAKO Championships, he took gold in the 15-17 years -55kg Light Contact division of the WKC event.
He defeated Jack Clemmey of England in semi final before seeing off the challenge of Puerto Rico’s John Mercado in the decider.
Josh Riddell, lining out in the 11-12 Years -45kg Light Contact field, despatched compatriot Thomas Potter in the quarter finals before beating Scotland’s Owen Cattanach in the last four,, recording a unanimous decision on both counts.
This set him up for a title decider against another Irish opponent Ricardo Whelan and he again produced another great performance to top the podium.
And competing a great outing for the Riddell family and Ljays Elite, Jake Riddell landed the Men’s Senior -80kg +18years Light Contact gold after he carded wins over Markus Kroisamer of Austria and England’s Thomas Ziesler.
