Marked increase in a number of instances of crime in second quarter

THERE has been a marked increase in a number of instances of crime in Ballyfermot in the second quarter of this year.

Instances of theft of mechanically-propelled vehicles have increased 90 per cent compared to the same time last year, jumping from 10 to 19.

There has been a significant increase in the number of searches carried out under the Drugs Act this year, totalling 328 compared to 92 last year.

Vehicle seizures are up 20 per cent, with 102 seizures this year compared to 85 last year, while instances of domestic violence with no offence disclosed are up 38 per cent, with a total of 113 this year compared to 83 in 2022.

Possession of drugs for personal use is up 20 per cent, with a total of 41 instances, while burglary is up 14 per cent with 16 instances reported.

However, there have been decreases in some crimes, with assault causing harm down 35 per cent, with a total of 13 this year compared to 20 last year.

Minor assault is down 36 per cent to 14 instances, compared to 22 last year, while criminal damage is down 31 per cent compared to last year.
