New emergency refuge for women to open soon

A NEW emergency refuge for families fleeing domestic violence is opening in South Dublin County in early December, with the community invited to help fundraise for the new facility.
Saoirse women’s refuge in Tallaght is running the new five-unit emergency refuge, which can cater for five adults and up to 15 children.

The demand for an emergency refuge in the local area remains high, with Saoirse unable to accommodate 287 families in 2018 due to space constraints.
However, after receiving funding through South Dublin County Council, the county’s second refuge will open its doors in early December.
The team at Saoirse are now inviting members of the community to support them in refurbishing the new refuge by taking part in their upcoming 1K Family Run.
The event is being supported and staged by Tallaght Athletics Club, with families invited to take to the Greenhills Road track for a good cause.
Orla Kelly, Assistant Manager with Saoirse, said: “There is a huge demand for emergency accommodation – we’ve been working on the new refuge for two years now.”
The Jingle All the Way 1K Family fun run in aid of Saoirse Women’s Refuge will take place from 2pm until 4pm at Tallaght Athletics Club on Sunday, December 1.
The event will boast spot prizes for the best Christmas jumper and festive outfit, with music, a raffle and face-painting also on the menu.
Tickets cost €10 (adult), €5 (child) and €25 (family – two adults and two children).
