Residents fear over spate of burglaries

OVER 70 people attended a meeting that was held by the St Martin’s Residents’ Association on Monday night, to raise concerns about a recent spate of burglaries in the area.
While there were heightened issues with anti-social behaviour in the area leading up to Halloween, this has lessened in recent weeks however, residents have complained of a spate of incidents of car theft and home burglaries recently.
Aylesbury residents have raised their concerns
The meeting was called by the residents’ association to allow residents to voice their concerns, and put them to members of An Garda Síochána who were at the meeting.
Dave Power from the residents’ association told The Echo: “An Garda Síochána and local councillors met with residents to go through ways to prevent the break-ins and robberies.
“There seems to have been a spike in these issues in the last two weeks, and it’s happening often enough that people in the area are concerned about it.
“The break-ins are happening late at night, and it seems like they’re quick break-ins where they run through the house.”
Mr Power added: “There’s always that thing, where there’s a slight disconnect between how residents perceive these issues and how gardai perceive these issues. We’re hoping that the meeting has put a little bit of pressure on the guards.”
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardai in Tallaght attended a meeting with local resident groups on the 11th of November, 2019 in relation to recent burglaries that have occurred in the area.
“Additional patrols will take place in the area.”
