Richmond Barracks transfer operations

DUBLIN City Council has transferred the management and operation of Richmond Barracks in Inchicore to Dublin City Council Culture Company.
The transfer is set to offer longer opening hours to the public, a self-service library, and will temporarily re-home Inchicore Library while it is closed for refurbishment.

Over 200 years old, the Barracks will remain an integral focal point for the local community, alongside the existing historical tours and talks.
Owned by the city council, Dublin City Council Culture Company was established in 2018 to run cultural initiatives across the city.
At the South Central area meeting on Wednesday, a report from Iseult Byrne, CEO Dublin City Council Culture Company, said they will run a new programme ‘Culture Connects’ from the centre, offering opportunities to participate in cultural activities for people of all ages.
She said they are excited to work with the local community and they will aim to “support and increase local engagement” and continue to “energise the significance of the site.”
Richmond Barracks was one of the state’s nine 2016 permanent reminder projects.
It was redeveloped by Dublin City Council as part of the Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme and officially opened in May 2016 as an interactive multimedia tourist attraction.
The café has also become a hidden gem for residents to enjoy.
