Shuttle buses should connect people to the Luas and stations

FREE shuttle buses to connect people to the Luas and train stations should be introduced by Dublin Bus or South Dublin County Council, according to Clondalkin Cllr Eoin Ó Broin, reports Maurice Garvey.
Recently, Cllr Ó Broin posted a social media video illustrating the benefits of a free shuttle bus service or a ‘Navette’ in France, a country he formerly lived in.

He said the service is available in villages all over France, funded by the local council and “goes in the same direction back and forth all day long, taking in different points of interest.”
Ó Broin would also like to see shuttle bus services introduced for Newcastle and Rathcoole, and from the train station in Clondalkin into the village.
“I believe that the 69 is not used by people going from Rathcoole to the city centre because it takes too long. From Rathcoole, I think a bus to the Luas, but also perhaps the same bus going to Hazelhatch via Newcastle.”
After attending the recent Velo City conference, Ó Broin is also calling for improved cycling and pedestrian facilities, noting Dutch Cycling Ambassador Mark Wagenbuur, who said he was “genuinely fearing for [his] life” while cycling in Dublin.
“The problems with congestion in Clondalkin and in particular, the village of Rathcoole, will only be solved by getting people to stop using their cars for short trips. Waiting for the council to build relief roads will take years and cost millions. A far cheaper solution is to improve cycling and pedestrian facilities.”
He was also critical of the lack of maintenance of cycle lanes in the county and lanes that terminate before roundabouts – “a real waste of time.”
