‘Significant progress’ made on the former Gallaher’s factory

SOUTH DUBLIN County Council say “significant progress” has been made on the condition of the former Gallaher’s factory on Greenhills Road, the Tallaght area committee meeting of SDCC heard this week.

Councillor Charlie O’Connor had put down a question asking the Chief Executive to ”detail actions available to him in respect of the derelict condition of the site of the former Gallaher's factory on Greenhills Road noting the concern of the wider community at the poor image of the location and will he appreciate the view that effective action is now overdue?"

The Council replied that they have continued to engage with the property management company for the site. They added: “Significant progress has been made and a new fence and gates have been erected along Airton Road, new fencing provided along the entire site and the site is now secure”.

The Council added that they have a good working relationship with the property manager and it is acknowledged that there is litter at the location and that the grass needs to be cut.

The area is now being rejuvenated with the recent opening of the Harvey Norman and Costa Coffee stores at the junction of the Airton and Greenhills Road. Across from Gallaher’s, a new Primary Health Care Centre is due to open and then across the road again, IT Tallaght have plans to develop their campus.
